Summer
can be anything but fun for Hawaii drivers.
According to federal statistics, summer is the
deadliest time of the year for motorists across the
country, including Hawaii.
In the Islands, traffic-accident deaths rise nearly
25 percent in June, July and August compared with the rest
of the year, according to a recent review of statewide
statistics.
Your
safety is something that we take very seriously.
That’s why we’ve launched a new program called.
AIG Hawaii DriveSafe.
This program encourages safe driving in our
community by rewarding customers who maintain safe driving
records. One
of the many benefits that we are pleased to offer is a
merit discount on your auto insurance premium for every
year of safe driving, up to six years.
DriveSafe also protects you if you get into an
accident by helping to lower surcharges and increases in
auto insurance payments.
So, the longer you maintain a safe driving record,
the greater the discount and savings on your auto
insurance premium. You
can learn more about AIG Hawaii DriveSafe in this issue of
Protecting Your Tomorrow.
Using a
cell phone is something that many of us take for granted. It’s become a convenient way to do business and to stay in
touch with family and friends.
Everyone is well aware of the dangers of using a
cell phone while driving, but did you know that it’s
also dangerous to use a cell phone while pumping gas?
In
response to recent cell phone related fires on the
Mainland, we’ve provided you with some safe refueling
tips. You’ll find these safety tips on the back page of
this newsletter.
And
finally, I’m pleased to report that we recently held our
latest Hot Spots, speeding awareness event. We’ve been
doing Hot Spots since 2002 and have identified 30
dangerous speeding areas in our community.
For our July event, AIG Hawaii employees joined
more than 150 students and teachers from Fern Elementary
School in Kalihi to increase community awareness about
speeding. The
Honolulu Police Department has long been a supporter of
Hot Spots and we were honored to have acting Chief of
Police Glen Kajiyama help us deliver the message that safe
driving benefits everyone in the community.
Stay
safe and aloha,
Robin Campaniano
